Edsel DeMeritt, 89, of Hudson, Mich., died Jan. 15, 2011, at the Fulton County Health Center in Wauseon, Ohio.
He was born May 30, 1921, in Hudson, the son of Everal and Mildred (Wolcott) DeMeritt. On April 7, 1943, in Morenci, Mich., he married Lois Mohler. She preceded him in death Oct. 5, 2005.
Edsel lived in the Morenci area all of his life. He was a member of the Medina Federated Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Edsel was a farmer and worked at several factory jobs, retiring from Fayette Tubular Products in the mid 1980s where he was a floor supervisor.
Survivors include four daughters, Sue (and Robert) Bachman of Morenci, Glenna Sutherland of Morenci, Janice (and Doug) Siegel of West Unity, Ohio, and Joyce (and Howard Jr.) Yatzek of Clayton, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Edsel was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jean Ann Wanner; a son-in-law, Larry Bailey; and a brother, Donald.
Funeral services are planned at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci, with Rev. Darren Lemmon officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci. Visitation is scheduled from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Medina Federated Church or to Hospice of Lenawee County.
