Joanna Marie Janish, 57, of Morenci,  Mich., died, Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, at her home. 

She was born Aug. 23, 1953, in Adrian,  Mich., to Albert Benjamin and Della (Griewahn) Bender.  On March 21, 1991, she married Lester Janish in Toledo, Ohio, and he survives.

Joanna was employed with the Department of Corrections, State of Michigan, until her retirement June 1, 2010. She attended the Medina Federated Church. She loved her children and horses, she was previously very active with Cub Scouts and she had a passion for the study of her genealogy.  Joanna was known as someone who could do anything she tried.

In addition to her husband, Joanna is survived by her mother, Della “Dottie” Bender; three sons, Michael (and Lisa) Vasher, Wesley Vasher and Travis Janish of Morenci; two brothers, Paul Bender of Toledo and Theodore “Ted” (and Heidi) Bender of Adrian; and one sister, Catherine Spangler of Washington.

She was preceded in death by her father; one daughter, Eva Marie; and one sister, Glenda.

Visitation is scheduled Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian. Funeral services are planned at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at the Anderson Funeral Home, with Pastor Darren Lemmon officiating. Cremation will follow the service.

Memorial contributions are suggest to Hospice of Lenawee.

    HOSE safety—The FireCatt hose testing company from Troy put Morenci Fire Department hose to the test Monday morning when Mill Street was closed to traffic. The company also checks nozzles and ladders for wear in an effort to keep fire fighters safe while on calls.

    BIKE-A-THON—Children in Morenci’s Summer Recreation Program brought their bikes last Tuesday to participate in a bike-a-thon. Riders await the start of the event at the elementary school before being led on a course through town by organizer Leonie Leahy.
