Elaine Pontious, 75, of Wauseon, Ohio, died Feb. 28, 2010, at the University Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio.

She was born July 22, 1934, in Riga, Mich., the daughter of Glenn and Ganella (Dressler) Kleindinest, Sr.  On Jan. 23, 1954, in Morenci, she married Rollin Pontious and he survives.

Elaine has lived in the Morenci area most all of her life.  She was a graduate of the Blissfield (Mich.) High School class of 1952. 

Survivors include six daughters, Cynthia (and William) Coleman of Wauseon, Ohio, Nancy (and Zeke) Thompson of Morenci, Cathy (and Doug) Williams of Morenci, Carol (and Matt Dunn) Garcia of Morenci, Tonya (and Troy Sanders) Pontious of Morenci, Cheryl Pontious of Burlington, N.C.; two sons, Charles (and Dawn) Pontious of Wauseon and Roger (and the late Teresa) Pontious of Morenci; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marian Lemke of Kalkaska, Mich., Dorothy Wilson of Blissfield and Janis (and Bill) Miller of Monroe, Mich.; and one brother, Glenn (and Katie) Kleindinest, Jr.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents and daughter-in-law, Teresa Pontious.

Funeral services are planned at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, at the Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci, with Rev. James Yatzek officiating.  Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci.  Visitation is scheduled from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorial contributions are suggested to a charity of donor’s choice.

    HOSE safety—The FireCatt hose testing company from Troy put Morenci Fire Department hose to the test Monday morning when Mill Street was closed to traffic. The company also checks nozzles and ladders for wear in an effort to keep fire fighters safe while on calls.

    BIKE-A-THON—Children in Morenci’s Summer Recreation Program brought their bikes last Tuesday to participate in a bike-a-thon. Riders await the start of the event at the elementary school before being led on a course through town by organizer Leonie Leahy.
