Elsie Ely, 89, of Medina Township, Mich., died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at Lynwood Manor in Adrian, Mich.
She was born Oct. 19, 1920, in Lyons, Ohio, the daughter of Dave and Maude (Viers) Morley. On Aug. 4, 1938, in Auburn, Ind., she married Francis “Spike” Ely. He preceded her in death April 1, 1995.
Elsie has lived in the Morenci area all of her life and was a member of the Medina Federated Church. She was formerly employed at the Kroger Store and Kiser's IGA in Hudson.
Survivors include five sons, Rodney (and Shirley) Ely of Fayette, Ohio, Joseph (and Kathy) Ely of Toledo, Ohio, Larry (and Anna) Ely of Morenci, Francis (and Sharon) Ely of Brooklyn, Mich., and William (and Jennifer) Ely of Addison, Mich.; 31 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary O’Bryant of Adrian.
Besides her husband, Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Rex, in infancy; a granddaughter; three great-grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; a sister; and three brothers.
Funeral services are planned at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci, with Rev. Howard Yatzek officiating. Burial will follow at the Porter-Packard Cemetery near Seneca, Mich. Visitation is scheduled from noon until the time of service Friday.
