Roy Collar, 81, of Morenci, Mich., died Jan. 11, 2010, at Provincial House in Adrian.

He was born July 25, 1928, in Morenci the son of Wells and Lola Bertha (Cody) Collar. He married Sharon Snyder on Jan. 3, 1954, in Angola, Ind.,  and she preceded him in death Dec. 31, 1992.

Roy lived in the Morenci area most all of his life. He worked as a journeyman high pressure steam boiler operator at the GM Plant in Tecumseh, retiring in 1986, after 27 years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean War.

Roy is survived by a son, Craig “Chip” Collar of Temperance, Mich.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Sue Wilson of Morenci; and a brother, Doyle (and Doris) Collar of Addison, Mich.

Besides his wife, Roy was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wells, Jr., and Teddy; a sister and two brothers in infancy; and two half-brothers, Tom and Charles Langford.

Funeral services are scheduled at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci, with Rev. William VanValkenburg officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci. Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday).

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

    HOSE safety—The FireCatt hose testing company from Troy put Morenci Fire Department hose to the test Monday morning when Mill Street was closed to traffic. The company also checks nozzles and ladders for wear in an effort to keep fire fighters safe while on calls.

    BIKE-A-THON—Children in Morenci’s Summer Recreation Program brought their bikes last Tuesday to participate in a bike-a-thon. Riders await the start of the event at the elementary school before being led on a course through town by organizer Leonie Leahy.
