Loraine W. “Bill” Barnes, 78, died Jan. 2, 2010, at Trident Hospital in North Charleston, S. C.
He was born March 20, 1931, in rural Morenci, Mich., to Denver and Vida (Covill) Barnes. He graduated from Morenci High School in 1948. He grew up on a farm working with his parents and siblings. He attended Michigan State University where he studied agriculture. He was a successful farmer in rural Hudson and Morenci until he retired.
Besides farming, Bill enjoyed the farm tractor pulling contests during fair week in Hudson, and one year had the only tractor that couldn’t be stopped. He also enjoyed talking about the Bible and his faith in Jehovah.
Bill is survived by his wife Betty; a brother, Gary; sons, Tom (and Sherrie) and Jerry; stepsons, Tony and Timmie; grandchildren, Jacob, Erica, Wendy, Angella, Jordan, Andrew, Josh, Chase, Shelly, and Katie; and great-grandchildren, Alexa, Amia, Gavin, Grace, Aiden and Addison.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Max; a sister, Bernadine; his first wife, Alma (Green); and his second wife, Jeannette (Leitner).
Memorial services were Jan. 9, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses located in West Columbia, S.C. where he served as an Elder in the congregation.
