Herbert E. Green, 92, of Burley Street, Morenci, Mich., formerly of Canandaigua, Mich., died Sept. 2, 2006 at Bixby Medical Center in Adrian, Mich.

He was born June 23, 1914 in Seneca, Mich., to Earskine and Sadie (Heckendorn) Green. He married Betty Harris on May 3, 1946 in Medina Township, Mich., and she preceded him in death Oct. 19, 1995.

Herbert served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from Brazeway in Adrian and he attended Hope Lutheran Church in Adrian.

Herbert is survived by three daughters, Jane Tremaine of Morenci, Rose (and Greg) Olmstead of North Adams, Mich., and Carol Urbanek of Tecumseh, Mich.; one son, Herbert Green, Jr., of Morenci; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and one sister, Dorothy Henning of Hudson, Mich.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two great-grandsons, Virgil VanDusen and Bradley Giberson; two sisters, Louisa Butler and Edith Mayville, and three brothers, Clarence, Leland and William Green.

Visitation is scheduled from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci.

Funeral services are planned at 11 a.m.   Wednesday, Sept. 6, at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel with Pastor Paul Herter officiating. Military interment by the Morenci American Legion will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

    HOSE safety—The FireCatt hose testing company from Troy put Morenci Fire Department hose to the test Monday morning when Mill Street was closed to traffic. The company also checks nozzles and ladders for wear in an effort to keep fire fighters safe while on calls.

    BIKE-A-THON—Children in Morenci’s Summer Recreation Program brought their bikes last Tuesday to participate in a bike-a-thon. Riders await the start of the event at the elementary school before being led on a course through town by organizer Leonie Leahy.
