Clark Wayne Powers, 79, died on his birthday, June 8, 2006, at the Cheboygan Tendercare Facility in Cheboygan, Mich.

He was born June 8, 1927 in Morenci, to Floyd L. and Zelma (Bachman) Powers. He was the sixth of eight children. He married Betty Joyce Foster on June 25, 1949 at the Morenci Methodist Church, and she survives.

Clark graduated from Morenci High School in 1947. He coached Morenci Little League baseball for many years. He retired from Blissfield Manufacturing in June 1991 and moved to Smokey Valley acres near Pelston, Mich., where he loved to hunt and tinker with different projects. He was a life member and past Master of Morenci Masonic Lodge.

Besides his wife, Clark is survived by a brother, Lyman A. (and Martha) Powers of Wauseon, Ohio; a sister, Betty L. Funk of Morenci; 32 nieces and nephews and numerous great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lowell, Lynn “Bun” and Lyle “Cub,” and sisters, Maxine Hartman and Mary Anne Leffingwell.

A public memorial service is scheduled at 3 p.m. June 22 at the Morenci American Legion. Cremation has already taken place and burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci. Memorial contributions may be made to Morenci Little League or the charity of the donors choice.

    HOSE safety—The FireCatt hose testing company from Troy put Morenci Fire Department hose to the test Monday morning when Mill Street was closed to traffic. The company also checks nozzles and ladders for wear in an effort to keep fire fighters safe while on calls.

    BIKE-A-THON—Children in Morenci’s Summer Recreation Program brought their bikes last Tuesday to participate in a bike-a-thon. Riders await the start of the event at the elementary school before being led on a course through town by organizer Leonie Leahy.
