The evening program provided a mix of stories, songs, dancing, crafts and snacks Monday evening. The program is offered at 5:30 p.m. every Monday for five more weeks. The program is designed for three to five year olds and their family.

Gearig, Elgin

Elgin A. Gearig, 78, of Alvordton, Ohio, died October 22, 2007, at his home. 

He was born Feb. 5, 1929, in Liberty Center, Ohio, to Edwin and Beulah (Hoyt) Gearig. He married Donna Eaton on April 25, 1952, in Fulton County, Ohio, and she survives.

 Elgin retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation in 1989 with more than 22 years of service. He enjoyed tractor shows, woodworking, and attending the Thresher’s reunion.

 Besides his wife, Elgin is survived by two daughters, Rose Watkins of Toledo, Ohio, and Loretta (and Dave) Burkhart of Pioneer, Ohio; one son, Timothy (and Helen) Gearig of Bryan, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John Gearig, Sr.

 Memorial services are scheduled at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at Alvordton United Brethren Church with Robert Gable officiating. Burial is planned in Pleasant View Union Cemetery in Fayette at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alvordton United Brethren Church.
