Louise Gardiner, 97, formerly of Morenci, Mich., died Oct. 11, 2007, at the Jackson County Medical Care Facility in Jackson, Mich.

She was born July 28, 1910, in Wauseon, Ohio, the daughter of Elmer & Anna (Vollmer) Grimm.  On Nov. 4, 1933, in Wauseon, Ohio, she married George Gardiner. He preceded her in death on April 20, 1975.

George and Louise along with Robert and Nellie June Gardiner, operated Gardiners 5 & 10 in Morenci for more 40 years. Louise was a member of the Morenci United Methodist Church. After her husband passed away, she spent most of her time in Lake Alfred, Fla.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann (and Ramon) Lamb of Ottawa, Ohio; two sons, William (and Alice) Gardiner of Williamston and Douglas (and Candice Lee) Gardiner of Horton; a son in law, Jerry Belding of Lady Lake, Fla.; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, George, Louise was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Jillyne Belding, and a brother, Howard Grimm.

There will be no visitation or viewing.  Burial will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci.

    LINED UP—Lengths of pipe were put in place last week along the route of the Rover natural gas pipeline that will stretch from Defiance, Ohio, to Ontario, Canada. Topsoil was removed before the pipes were laid out. The 42-inch diameter pipeline is scheduled for completion in November.

    ONE-TWO PUNCH—Morenci’s Griffin Grieder saved his best for last, running his fastest time ever in the 110-meter high hurdles at the state finals Saturday in Grand Rapids to finish first in the state in Div. IV. His brother Luke, a junior (right), claimed the state runner-up spot. Bulldog junior Bailee Dominique placed seventh in the 100-meter dash.

    MORENCI senior class president Mikayla Price leads the way Sunday afternoon from the Church of the Nazarene to the United Methodist Church for the baccalaureate ceremony. Later in the day, 39 members of the senior class received diplomas in the high school gymnasium.

    PROGRESS continues on the agriculture classroom addition at Fayette High School. The project will add 2,900 square feet of space and include an overhead door that would allow equipment to be driven inside. The building should be ready for the start of school in August. Work on ball fields and a running track is also underway.
