A rural Hudson man was found dead Sunday morning by fire-fighters.

The Hudson and Morenci fire departments were dispatched at 6:50 a.m. Sunday to a house fire at 13347 Medina Rd. in Hudson Township.

The occupant of the house, Bruce Allen Shipman, 58, was found dead on the first floor of the residence.

A press release from the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Department stated that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

During Morenci’s city council meeting Monday, council member Tracy Schell thanked department member Brad Lonis for his efforts at leading RIT training for Morenci and other departments. RIT, an acronym for Rapid Intervention Team, assigns department members to monitor the safety of those fighting a fire.

At the fire Sunday, Lonis said Cory Holt, R.J. Robinson and Jon Erskin put their training to use to quickly rescue department member Micah Borton who fell through a hole in the floor of the burning home.

They knew exactly what to do, Schell said, do to the emphasis placed on rescue techniques.
