The Fulton County Sheriff’s office has received information regarding callers who claim to be from Medicare calling Fulton County residents.
The caller claims to represent Medicare and asks for personal information such as bank account numbers and Social Security numbers in order to send out a new Medicare card. This is fraudulent activity. Medicare only issues cards through its website or when someone requests one directly from the Medicare office.
Residents have also reported calls about a grandchild who has been in an accident or who is in jail in another country, usually Mexico, who needs money for medical treatment or bail.
Fulton County Sheriff Roy Miller suggests that residents never offer personal information over the telephone and be very leery of sending money through wire transfer. Before sending any money, residents should make sure they know the people with whom they are dealing.
Any resident who has a question about a phone call or mail they receive as a possible scam should contact the Sheriff’s office or a local law enforcement agency for assistance.
