Drug take-back day set in Fayette 2012.08.29

Fayette area residents will have the opportunity to safely dispose of unused and expired medication next month.

Police chief Jason Simon said a collection point will be established in front of the village offices from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 29.

In the past, collections were scheduled in Wauseon and Archbold, but this is the first time that Fayette will have its own collection.

Fayette maintenance supervisor Tom Clemensen told council members at the Aug. 22 meeting that expired medication is a big concern for sewage treatment plants due to the traces of drugs that are present in the discharge of treated sewage.

The EPA has begun testing for medication residue, he said.
