A rural Sand Creek man died Monday when his vehicle collided with a Schwan’s food delivery truck near Weston.

Melvin Kibler, 91, of 9155 Terry Hwy., Sand Creek, was southbound on Terry Highway near his home when he made a U-turn at the Weston Road intersection and headed back north. His 2001 GMC Yukon was struck by the Schwan’s truck and rolled over. A report from the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Department indicates that Kibler was not wearing a seatbelt and was pinned by his vehicle.

The driver of the truck, Robert Smith II of Ypsilanti, refused treatment at the scene.

Kibler was still alive at the scene when he was transported by medical helicopter to Toledo.

The accident remains under investigation.
