Morenci sets kindergarten registration 2012.03.14

Written by David Green.

Morenci’s annual kindergarten registration is scheduled April 17 and 18, but first comes filling out forms and a parent information meeting.

Information packets for parents will be available at the office at the elementary school beginning March 19.

A parent information meeting is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at the elementary school. Parents can pick up a packet at the meeting and sign up for a registration time. Children must be five years old on or before Dec. 1, 2012, to enroll in developmental kindergarten or kindergarten.

Parents must bring their child’s original certified birth certificate, immunization record, Social Security number (optional), and proof of residency to register their child. At registration, children will be given hearing and vision tests and meet with one of the kindergarten teachers.

Parents must make an appointment to bring their child to the registration days, scheduled April 17 and 18.

Morenci Area Schools offers full-day every day kindergarten and developmental kindergarten programs. Strong academics as well as enrichment in computers, art, music and physical education are emphasized. School of choice families are welcome.

For more information, call Mrs. Wood at Morenci Elementary School at 458-7504.

THE DERBY—Tyler “Smallpox” Flakne of Minnesota’s Home Run League All-Stars goes for the fence Friday night during the National Wiffle League Association’s home run derby in Morenci. This year the wiffleball national tournament moved from Dublin, Ohio, to Morenci’s Wakefield Park. During the derby, competitors had two minutes to hit as many home runs as possible. The winner this year finished with 21. See page 6 and 7 for additional photos.

The project will add 2,900 square feet of space and include an overhead door that would allow equipment to be driven inside. The building should be ready for the start of school in August. Work on ball fields and a running track is also underway.
