Robert Harold Acker, 78, of Weidman, Mich., died Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at his home.

Bob was born Feb. 13, 1928 in Morenci, Mich., the son of Harold and Hazel (Miller) Acker. He married Carlene Pankhurst on July 30, 1995. Bob worked as an insurance agent for Acker Insurance Agency and Bob Acker and Associates for 47 years. He was a member of the Republican Party, one of the first extension leaders for 4-H, a charter member helping get the 4-H Camp built, a chairman of the Mt. Pleasant Building Authority, a chairman of Isabella County Transportation Committee and, a member of the Rosebush United Methodist Church. He helped with the building of the new Rosebush United Methodist Church and he loved his farm.

Bob is survived by his wife, Carlene; children, Tim (and Janice) Whitford of Tecumseh, Mich., David (and fiancée Rhea Clark) Warner of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Holly Kazuba of Rosebush; and grandchildren, Jessica and Meghan Cangley.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. July 27 at Rosebush United Methodist Church with Pastor Greg Buchner officiating. Interment took place in the Fayette Cemetery in Fayette, Ohio, on Friday, July 28.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice of Central Michigan.

    HOSE safety—The FireCatt hose testing company from Troy put Morenci Fire Department hose to the test Monday morning when Mill Street was closed to traffic. The company also checks nozzles and ladders for wear in an effort to keep fire fighters safe while on calls.

    BIKE-A-THON—Children in Morenci’s Summer Recreation Program brought their bikes last Tuesday to participate in a bike-a-thon. Riders await the start of the event at the elementary school before being led on a course through town by organizer Leonie Leahy.
