Seventeen candidates are vying to become Morenci’s high school/middle school principal for the 2011-12 school year.
“We are very pleased with the applications that we have received,” said superintendent of schools Michael Osborne. “We have an excellent selection of internal and external candidates.”
Morenci’s board of education hired Steve Philipp last August on an interim basis to fill the post vacated by Nate Parker who took a job with the Adrian district. At that time the board intended to post the job again and take a longer period of time to seek candidates.
An administrative team will review résumés through March 25 and narrow the field to a few candidates for a team of administrators, teachers and other staff members to interview in mid-April.
Osborne said the group will seek a strong leader to fill the challenging role of guiding both the high school and middle school.
The new principal will begin duties July 1 after Philipp’s contract expires.
