Firefighters from Lyons, Morenci and Fayette were among the searchers looking for a possible plane crash Sunday morning.
The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible crash from a driver of a vehicle traveling along U.S. 20. The driver said he observed a small airplane flying low to the ground. It traveled over a woods in the vicinity of U.S. 20 and Fulton County Road 15-1 and was not seen again.
The driver wondered if the plane crashed, but he could see no smoke suggesting the plane went down.
After searchers began covering the area and the LifeFlight helicopter was investigating from the air, the sheriff department dispatcher received two calls from area residents stating that the plane was observed continuing northward after it passed over the woods.
The search was called off at 11 a.m.
