It took a large Consumers Power crew a little longer than expected, but work was completed Sunday evening on an upgrade to Morenci’s electrical service.
Consumers notified customers that power would be shut off at noon Sunday and could continue as late as 7 p.m. By the time the project wrapped up, the crew was working with floodlights when power was restored at 7:35.
Consumers media representative Terry Dedoes said the project was completed and any additional work will not require an outage.
The work at Morenci’s substation was the completion of a project over the summer and fall to bring new high-voltage lines to the city from the north. The project is expected to bring improved reliability to service in Morenci.
Currently there are two lines leading into Morenci along M-156, but Dedoe said the old lines and poles are expected to be removed within the next two weeks.
