Police search finds drug paraphernalia 10.06

A property search Friday night in Morenci resulted in the seizure of drug paraphernalia and possible narcotics.

Morenci Chief of Police Larry Weeks said his department was aided by the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Department and the Hudson Police Department in executing a search warrant at about 9:55 p.m. Friday at 820 N. Summit St.

The property was searched for possible stolen property and other criminal activity, he said.

The renters were not home when police arrived, so officers entered the home and searched the property. In addition to finding drug paraphernalia, police found possible narcotics. A preliminary test indicated cocaine, but the substance will be tested at a lab.

Weeks said he met with neighbors in the past after receiving numerous complaints about the residents due to loud parties and other disturbances.

He appreciates the neighbors’ patience in allowing the investigation to follow proper procedures—a process that isn’t as fast as some may desire—and he also appreciates their active involvement in the situation.

Chief Weeks said he hopes this will rectify the situation. The information collected was given to the prosecutor’s office and the investigation continues.
