Morenci's parking lot project moves forward 11.10.2010

Morenci’s parking lot rebuilding project continues to progress, said mayor Keith Pennington at the city council meeting Monday night, with the demolition of two buildings expected to occur this winter.

The existing parking lots won’t be torn up until the spring when construction could  begin, he said, to shorten the time when the lots are out of service.

The mayor was asked if all the plans are now final.

“It’s close,” he said, “but we’re still working with two property owners.”

The City is negotiating with the owner of the former movie rental store for an easement to create additional parking space. An easement is also sought from the owners of the Village Inn restaurant in order to install a sidewalk and landscaping along the east side of the building.

AUDIT—The annual city audit is scheduled at the Nov. 22 council meeting when CPA Philip Rubley presents his findings from the fiscal year that ended June 30.
