Fayette school board 05.26.10

Fayette school staff members are helping the district through tough financial times by taking pay freezes.

At the May meeting, board of education members approved a motion to freeze the salaries of staff members not covered by bargaining unit agreements.

Support staff that are part of a union agreed to roll over their contracts for the next school year with wages frozen at the current levels.

The district’s teachers agreed earlier through negotiations to no increase in the base teacher salary.

“The staff understands that the current economic conditions have been very difficult for the taxpayers,” superintendent Russ Griggs said. “The school district has to operate as conservatively as possible while maintaining the highest quality educational programs possible.”
