Morenci Garden Club members led the way by scheduling an auction at their December meeting. Everyone brought a wrapped gift and for the auction, members placed bids and took their chances on what was inside.
The effort brought in $210 which was donated to the Morenci Food Bank.
Since the auction was such a success for the Garden Club, club member Renée Schroeder decided to try it last week when city employees and volunteers gathered for their annual Christmas lunch.
When the proceeds from the city hall auction were tallied, $292 was raised for the Food Bank. City supervisor Barney Vanderpool added an extra $8 to round it off at $300.
The surprise gifts ranged from chocolate covered peanut brittle to Christmas ornaments to a tube of Boudreaux’s Butt Paste.
The events were a quick way to help out the Food Bank, Schroeder said, and participants had a good time doing it.
