A Morenci graduate recently earned a Doctorate degree at Michigan State University.

Dr. Ryan Shadbolt completed all requirements for the Doctor of Philosophy degree in geography at Michigan State University in August 2009.

His Ph.D. dissertation was titled “Climate Trends and Synoptic Patterns Associated with Major Precipitation Events of the Southern Appalachians.”

Shadbolt previously received his Master of Arts degree in geography at Michigan State University in 2003 and received his Bachelor of Science degree at Central Michigan University in 2001, where he majored in earth science and minored in geography, mathematics, and computer science.

He is collaborating with Geography Department faculty and research meteorologists from the U.S. Forest Service to develop and test numerical modeling tools for predicting smoke from wildfires.

He is a 1997 graduate of Morenci Area High School and is the son of Brian and Linda Shadbolt.
