Benet DeMeritt included in book 8.12.09

Written by David Green.

A former Morenci resident was included in a young author compilation through the North Carolina Reading Association.

Benett DeMeritt, the daughter of Eric and Kristina DeMeritt, was included in the third grade section of the book titled “Crossing the Bridge – Young Authors.”

Students were offered the opportunity to write stories for the annual project and two from each class at Benett’s school were chosen to be included.

Her bridge theme writing was called “Bridge to Heaven” and is about her two sisters who died in infancy.

Benett said she enjoys writing and does a lot of it. She can try again next year with the theme “Surfing the Waves.”

She is a student at Creekside Elementary School in New Bern, N.C. The family moved south due to her father’s military career after Benett’s kindergarten year in Michigan.
