Morenci voters won’t need to make any choices in the city election in November, but there will be a change in position and one new person serving.
Five candidates filed to fill five positions for city offices. The filing deadline was May 12.
Incumbent council member Keith Pennington filed to serve as mayor and will face no challenger. Mayor Doug Erskin chose not to seek a second term.
Two other incumbents, Tracy Schell and Greg Braun, filed to run for four-year terms on city council. Incumbent Jason Cook filed to fill the remaining two years of a four-year term to which he was appointed last year.
That leaves Pennington’s council seat vacant, and Joseph Varga filed to fill that four-year term.
