The ballot is filling up with incumbents in Morenci’s city election. Voters will choose four city council members plus a mayor in the November election.
The next mayor will be someone new to the position now that Doug Erskin has decided not to seek another term.
As of Monday, only council member Keith Pennington has announced his intention to serve as mayor.
Jason Cook will seek voter approval to complete the final two years of a term he was appointed to fill until the next election.
Incumbents Tracy Schell and Greg Braun have both announced they will run for reëlection to four-year terms.
With Pennington in the mayor’s race, his council position will need to be filled.
Residents have until May 12 to submit nominating petitions at City Hall.
