Fire Sirens to collect cash in boots 9.24

Written by David Green.

The Morenci Fire Sirens group has scheduled a boot drive from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday in downtown Morenci, near the stoplight.

Members of the Fire Sirens will ask drivers to place cash donations inside fire boots.

Money from this year’s drive will be used to purchase LED flashlights for the fire department. The flashlights are light weight, hand-held personal lights with a right angle head, designed to clip on turn-out gear for hands-free use. The lights feature smoke cutter optics which penetrate smoke and fog, and cost $50 each. The lights will be department issued as part of a members’ turn-out gear.

The Fire Sirens hope to purchase 25 lights this year.

The group worked at M.I.S. during the summer, had several bake sales and sold cookbooks to raise money for the project.

Last year the Fire Sirens helped purchase a thermal imaging camera for the department.
