For the first time in 13 years, the Morenci Board of Education has a new leader.
Carrie Dillon was elected the group’s new president by a 3-2 vote to replace Dwight Mansfield who has served in the post since 1995.
Ivy Hutchison, Cyndee Sanders and Dillon voted for the new president, while Gary Ries and Mansfield voted for Mansfield.
Trustees Scott Merillat and Jim Place were absent.
Ries was chosen to serve as vice president, Sanders as secretary and Mansfield as treasurer.
The board voted to continue scheduling regular meetings at 7 p.m. on the first Monday of the month, with three exceptions: April 2, Sept. 8 and Jan. 12.
Standing committee members were chosen to cover three areas:
• curriculum, Ivy Hutchison and Cyndee Sanders;
• building and site, Gary Ries and Dwight Mansfield;
• finance, Gary Ries and Dwight Mansfield;
• personnel, Cyndee Sanders and Scott Merillat.
Dillon will continue as the board’s liaison to the Michigan Association of School Boards. Hutchison will represent the board on the Lenawee County Association of School Boards.
