Mayor Erskin forming property maintenance committee 6.11

Written by David Green.

When Doug Erskin announced his bid to become Morenci’s mayor, he spoke of the desire to seek opinions from more residents.

Ideas, not demands, would be his way of looking at issues including property maintenance problems. He said he aimed to create a more friendly way to create change.

Now as mayor, Erskin is moving in that direction by inviting residents to join city representatives on a property maintenance committee. The group will meet to discuss regulations governing the maintenance of property in Morenci.

Erskin said at the council meeting Monday the committee will give direction to the building inspector in following the International Property Maintenance Code, adopted by the city in 2003. The group would discuss which issues are the most urgent to address and would work toward the most economical remedies.

The mayor is seeking volunteers to join the committee and he would like to have a group in place by June 18, prior to the first meeting June 26.

Anyone interested in serving should call  city hall at 458-6828.
