Waldron elects new village leaders 9.26

Waldron has a new village president, new clerk and a new trustee following elections Sept. 11.

Richard Buck defeated John Tanner 79-27 for village president and Ruth Hotchkiss was chosen as clerk, running unopposed and garnering 92 votes.

Christine Douglas was given another term as village treasurer, defeating challenger Donald Achenbach 71-36.

Six trustees were chosen, including three incumbents. New trustee Shaun Barnhart was given 82 votes and former president Harold Douglas received 91 votes. Jeff Bernath (82 votes), Roy Hall (78) and Rick Bays (76) were returned to office. Brad Fry (79) retained his seat after having been appointed to office.

OFFICER—Meeting a day after the election, trustees discussed a proposal to hire a code enforcement officer to issue citations for violators of local ordinances. Waldron residents Christine Douglas and Sara Mercer, plus Morenci police officer Don Thompson, have applied for the position.
