David Metcalf: Fayette Citizen of the Year 8.1

Written by David Green.

Fayette resident David Metcalf was named the 2007 Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce. He will be honored Saturday at the Bull Thistle Festival.

David, a lifelong resident of Fayette, has been instrumental in the success Fayette’s recycling program.  He has helped with the program for more than 20 years.

The program gives residents the opportunity to recycle cardboard, milk jugs, aluminum cans, tin cans, glass, newspapers, magazines and certain types of plastic for recycling rather than throwing them away where they would end up in a landfill.

Anyone who uses the once-a-month program probably recognizes Dave as a regular volunteer on recycling Saturday.

What people might not know is that Dave often volunteers many hours a week collecting cardboard from St. Vincent de Paul and other locations for storage  at the center until recycling day.
