Representatives from the Ohio EPA will meet with Fayette village council members for a special session at 7 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Opera House.
Village administrator Tom Spiess explained that the meeting is part of an on-going process established in the judicial consent order of 2001 regarding cleanup of the former Fayette Tubular Products site. The order requires that council members receive periodic updates.
The briefing for council will precede a public information meeting not yet scheduled by the Ohio EPA.
Spiess asked the agency about the subject of the meeting but was given no details. He speculates the topic might be about how the contaminated property could be used in the future.
The contaminants involved along with the level of cleanup determine future land use.
Councilor Craig Rower requested that the Ohio EPA send someone this time who can answer questions about the issue.
