A new school superintendent was hired and several locally funded modifications to the new school building were adopted Monday during a two-hour Fayette school board meeting. Trustees also attended to a multitude of year-end business.
The board unanimously voted to hire Russell Griggs to replace school superintendent David Hankins, who is retiring at the end of the calendar year. Over the last 25 years, Griggs has served as superintendent at Delta, Evergreen, and Elmwood and currently serves as the superintendent of the Stryker school district.
Hankins said the board favored Griggs over the other 23 applicants because he has experience working with the Ohio School Facilities Commission (OSFC) in building new schools. During Griggs’ tenure at Evergreen, he oversaw the construction of two school buildings with help from OSFC grants, Hankins said.
Over the next six months, Griggs will work with Hankins to ensure the transition goes as smoothly as possible.
