Steinem, William

William A. “Bill” Steinem, 88, of Fayette,  Ohio, died Jan. 13, 2013, at Heartland of Wauseon.

He was born June 25, 1924, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Edgar and Ruth (Acker) Steinem.

Bill, a life-long Fayette area resident, was a graduate of Gorham Fayette High School and Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio. He was a member of the Fayette Christian Church-Disciples, the Fayette Lions Club, Fulton County Democratic Party, and the Fayette Historical Society. He was also a generous monetary contributor to several other area organizations.

Bill was known as a man of great intelligence who liked to read and keep abreast of national and world affairs, and he had a passion for the conservation of the environment.

He is survived by several cousins.

Funeral services are planned at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Eagle Funeral Home-Barrett Chapel in Fayette, with Rev. Gene Sugg officiating. In accordance with Bill’s wishes, cremation will follow the service and interment of his cremated remains will take place in Pleasant View Union Cemetery in Fayette with a committal service at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20. Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations are suggested to the Gorham Fayette Fire Department, Fayette Community Fine Arts Council, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
