James P. Briskey, 73, a life-long farmer of Waldron, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at home.
He was born Nov. 1, 1933, in Toledo, Ohio, to Harry and Eleanor (Kaminski) Briskey. He married Eva Knobloch on Feb. 27, 1960, in Hudson, Mich., and she survives.
Jim was owner and operator of Prattville Fertilizer and Grain, Briskey Elevator of Quincy and Pittsford Grain. He graduated from Waldron High School in 1951. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hudson and Waldron V.F.W. Leonard T. Simmons Post #5791. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Jim was a member of the board of directors at Southern Michigan Bank and Trust for 25 years.
Surviving besides his wife, Eva, of Waldron are four daughters, Barbara (and Larry) Fether of Pittsford, Mich., Mary (and Doug) Shatter of Livonia, Mich., Teresa Boyer of Wauseon, Ohio, and Donna (and Brian) Suboski of West Unity, Ohio; one son, William Briskey of Hudson, Mich.; three sisters, Michelin Dietrich of Osseo, Mich., Pauline (and James) Schaedler of Waldron, Margaret Briskey of Fayette, Ohio; three brothers, Jerry (and Eunice) Briskey of Waldron, Paul Briskey of Tecumseh, Mich., and John (and Jackie) Briskey of Stryker, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Janet Everingham, and one daughter, Liese Briskey, in infancy.
Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Richard Eberle and Fr. H. Paul Ruddy as celebrants. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Hudson.
Visitation is planned from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, with a Vigil Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m., at Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson.
Those planning an expression of sympathy may make memorial contributions to Fr. H. Paul Ruddy Education Endowment Fund or Hospice of Hillsdale County.
