William Carl Marks, 80, of Hudson, Mich., died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at home.
He was born March 1, 1930, in Ottawa Lake, Mich., to Elwin C. and Elsie E. (Ahlemann) Marks.
He graduated from Britton High School in 1947. On May 26, 1951, he married Mildred I. Emery in Adrian and she survives. Bill was a member of Carpenters Local #1004, St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church and American Legion #180. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1954 to 1956.
Bill also worked in commercial and home construction and was an avid craftsman who enjoyed woodworking, hunting, shooting trap, restoring vintage Ford vehicles and spending time with his family. Hosting large family gatherings brought him great pleasure, and he had a gift for lifting people’s spirits.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Nancy K. (and Leonard) Beaubien of Hudson, Judy L. (and Craig) Schneiderbauer of Whitehouse, Ohio, and Wendy L. (and Bently) Laser of Alanson, Mich.; two brothers, Herbert B. (and Jan) Marks of Mooresville, N.C., and Stanley A. (and Judy) Marks of Fresno, Calif.; a sister, Leola (and Wesley) Hunt of Adrian, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Christopher Beaubien, Audrey (and Jason) Wegner, Eric and Emily Schneiderbauer, Bently, Holly and Shelby Laser; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Bradley William, in infancy.
Funeral services are planned at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, with Pastor Brian Keller officiating. Burial will be in Dover Center Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian.
