Elwyn Asa Vanderpool, Sr., 71, of Grayling, Mich., formerly of Sand Creek, died at his home Sept. 29, 2010, surrounded by his children and grandchildren, after a brief battle with cancer.

He was the son of Harry and Eva Mae Vanderpool. He married Sharon Elaine Morris on Sept. 14, 1957.

He is survived by four children, Tyke (and Jolene) Vanderpool, Vonda (and Jeff) Sedlacek, Leonard Vanderpool and Kindra Keir; two brothers, Norman and Bruce Vanderpool; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon, of 42 years; granddaughter Chelsey Kay; grandson Blake Keir; his parents and several siblings.

A memorial service will be scheduled at 1 p.m. Nov. 20 at Maple Forest Township Hall near Grayling.
