Petition drive calls for referendum on Seneca wind energy ordinance 2012.03.28
A letter of intent was sent to the Seneca Township clerk on Friday announcing that a referendum petition drive is underway. The referendum would give township residents the opportunity to have their say on the new wind energy facility ordinance passed by the township board March 12.
Seneca Highway resident Lori Glisson sent the letter last week and said she’s hoping voters turn down the ordinance so board members will be forced to re-examine the wording. She wants to see greater protection for non-participating property owners—those who choose not to sign lease agreements with a wind energy company.
She views her efforts as making the ordinance more protective, not restrictive.
“I want everyone to receive adequate protection from industrial wind turbines,” she said.
A successful petition drive could place the proposal on the August primary ballot, Glisson believes.
