Powerlifters compete

Morenci’s Powerlifting team competed at a regional qualifier Saturday in Edwardsburg.

In the women’s competition, Katie Cox turned in a first place finish, competing in the 181-pound weight class. She had a 210-pound squat lift, a 120 bench lift, and a 255 dead lift for a 585 total. All her lifts were personal bests.

Makiha Lockwood also came home with a first place finish. Competing in the 198 weight class, she had a 235 squat, a 120 bench and a 290 dead lift for a 645 total.

Taylor Baugh came in third in the 114 weight class. She had personal bests in the squat with a 160 and the bench with a 95. Her dead lift was 230 for a 485 total.

In the junior varsity mens competition, Malachi Hoffman came in second in the 145 weight class. He had a 245 squat, a 180 bench, and a 325 dead lift for a 750 total.

Chris Hinkley brought home a third place finish in the 132 weight class. He had a 245 squat, a 155 bench and a 300 dead lift for a 700 total.

In the varsity mens competition Logan Drummond competed in the 194 weight class. He had a 235 squat, 220 bench, and a personal best 380 dead lift for a total of 835.
