Three Morenci residents were among several people honored May 25 at the annual Lenawee County Sheriff’s Department award banquet.
Fire chief Chad Schisler and Morenci resident Billy Williams each received a Civilian Citation for their efforts during the search in October for 14-year-old Seneca Township youth Collin Fletcher who failed to return home from a hunting venture. Fairfield Township fire chief Jim Oard was also a recipient. The Fairfield department received the initial call in the search effort.a
The three men helped organize dozens of volunteers and fire-fighters in a search effort that lasted from 4 p.m. until 8 a.m. the next day.
The citation states, “Although the missing youth was eventually found deceased, the effort and leadership skills displayed resulted in a very well executed search.”
Lenawee County Sheriff Department dispatcher Christopher Hudson was also honored for his work in a Morenci-area incident.
Hudson was on duty when a family of four living on Lime Creek Road was tied up and robbed in October. He was said to display “dedication and professionalism” in calming the victims and reassuring the victims while they awaited the arrivals of officers.
A Civilian Citation was also given to Brian Anderson, Joseph Shrader and Connie Sayler for their actions in saving a victim’s life after a car accident and fire.
Commendations were given to Deputy Chris VanDyke and to dispatchers Cherrie Elliott and Miranda Brenner.
Certificates of Recognition were presented to deputies David Harsh and Keith Gorney, Sgt. Michael Crater, various dispatchers, parole agent David Face, and probation agents Christopher Jones and Michael Stevenson.
