Morenci city council 08.11.2010
The demolition of the former Morenci Area Hospital could be moved back a few weeks due to delays.
City council members approved a change in the demolition timeline through Oct. 25, 2010, and the site preparation time to Dec. 25.
Once the facility is demolished, the site will be leveled and seeded before turning the property over to the city.
Morenci city administrator/clerk Renée Schroeder told council members that property owner Bixby Medical Center is still working with the Lenawee County Health Department to approve changes at the former Charles Fay Village residential complex. The building will be used to house Dr. William Gray’s medical office and the senior citizen center, currently located in the former hospital.
The changeover is moving forward, Schroeder said, but not as quickly as anticipated.
Negotiations are continuing in an effort to use the facility for fire training before demolition.
ASSISTANT—Council voted unanimously, with mayor Keith Pennington absent, to hire rural Clayton resident Ann Emrick as the police department assistant.
Starting Thursday, Emrick will take on many of the department’s clerical duties. After police chief Larry Weeks began additional duties as Morenci Area EMS director, keeping up with paperwork requirements has been a challenge.
Chief Weeks said he received about a dozen applications for the part-time job, but Emrick had the advantage of past work experience in the Toledo court system.
Starting next week, she’s expected to be available to assist the public from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays.
