Fayette alley hearing 06.30.2010

Safety concerns have prompted the Fayette village council to change the flow of traffic to one-way in a portion of an alley.

A public hearing is scheduled at 7 p.m. July 6 to collect comments on the proposal.

Police chief Jason Simon worked with council’s Safety Committee to request a zoning amendment to change traffic from west to east in the alley behind the south side of the business district. The change would affect only one block of the alley.

One-way traffic would begin at S. Fayette Street behind Keifer’s Korner Video and proceed east to property located behind 106 E. Main St.

Traffic in the alley from the east is subject to limited visibility of pedestrians when entering S. Fayette Street.

Written comments will be accepted until 5 p.m. July 6. The zoning board will conduct the hearing at 7 p.m. in council chambers.
