Fayette village council 06.23.2010
Fayette village council took action last week to tackle road work this summer and councilors are hoping for additional work in 2011.
Council members voted June 15 to bid work through the Fulton County Engineer’s office for seal coating five streets this summer, at a cost of $8,146.
Streets chosen are E. Spring Street, from Fayette Street to the dead end; S. Maple Street, from Main Street to Ontario Street; W. Spring Street, from Fayette Street to Maple Street; N. Eagle Street, from Spring Street to Spring Creek; and N. Fayette Street, at the Gross Street intersection.
Chesterfield Township is also joining in the county project for $72,563 in projects. Gorham Township is contracting for $13,426.
The work will be done by Ward Construction Company.
The Fayette project addresses five of 12 streets that received a top rating of concern during a survey made in 2009.
Crack sealing won’t be done this year, said village administrator Amy Metz during a committee meeting June 15. The village crew could rent the equipment and do the job themselves, she said, but they won’t be able to get to it this summer.
“I think streets should be our number one priority,” said council member Tom Molitierno, but he noted that funds are lacking.
“We don’t have the money to pave,” said village fiscal officer Lisa Zuver. “The money just isn’t there.”
Village employee Scott Wagner asked if money could come out of the sewer fund for street repair since sewer projects were the cause of rough pavement in some areas.
Metz confirmed that water and sewer funds could be used in those situations.
