Morenci Education Foundation banquet announced 03.03.10
Of course there are the distinguished alumni to be honored and the auction items to sell for the scholarship fund. That’s a given.
But think about food when considering your attendance at this year’s Morenci Education Foundation Dinner and Auction at the high school April 17.
The eighth annual event—with the theme “Be a Class Act – Get an Education”—features a special dessert table from a local chef.
The meal will begin with a dinner catered by D&J Catering from Wauseon, featuring a salad bar, roast beef, Hawaiian chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans almondine and glazed carrots.
Then comes a dessert table featuring a variety of cake rolls prepared by Chuck Beck.
“To take this year’s event over the top,” said Foundation chair Bill Van Valkenburg, “the caterers will also be supplying a decadently delicious chocolate fountain complete with 10 dipping items.”
The evening will be dedicated to local business owners Adam and Gail Johnson who have been long-time supporters of both the city and the school district. Four Morenci graduates will be honored with Distinguished Alumni awards.
“This is the major fund-raiser for the Morenci Education Foundation,” Van Valkenburg said, “with all profits from the evening going toward scholarships for both this year’s seniors as well as returning college upperclassmen.”
During the past seven years, 44 scholarships totaling nearly $40,000 have been awarded—all through the faithfulness and generosity of the Morenci community,” Van Valkenburg said.
Auction items should be dropped off at the Morenci office of United Bank and Trust through April 10.
Invitations will be mailed to everyone who has attended in previous years and dinner reservations must be made by April 10. Reservations can be made on the Education Foundation website at www.morencieducationfoundation.org. Cash donations are always welcome and can be mailed to: MEF, 500 Page St., Morenci, MI 49256.
Ticket prices are the same as last year: $25 a person or $40 for a couple.
“All are welcome to attend,” Van Valkenburg said. “We’re hoping to have our biggest attendance yet.”
