Cochranes named king and queen
Morenci residents Herbert “Bill” and Irene Cochrane were named King and Queen of the Manor.
Irene moved into the manor first, about four years ago, after she broken her hip. Bill moved into the assisted care facility for a few months before joining Irene in the Manor.
Bill farmed until 1964 before moving to Morenci to work for Jim Barrett and Harley Hodges, first in farming and later as a fairway mower at their golf course in Ottawa Hills. Irene was a homemaker all of her married life.
That leads to Bill’s secret to a long and successful marriage: “She was willing to do it all, and I was willing to let her.”
Bill will turn 90 years old Aug. 2 and Irene will follow Aug. 16. The Cochranes will celebrate 69 years of marriage on June 28.
Their children are Carol (and Larry) Clymer, Beverly (and Don) Zuvers, Sharon (and Ernie) Hicks and Gary (and Tammy) Cochrane. Bob is deceased. They have 15 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
Carol said her parents are doing quite well, although her mother has difficulty walking. Her parents enjoy dinner out every Sunday.
