Phelps Garden rededicated 8.26.09

The Phelps Garden at Adrian College was rededicated Saturday.

More than 60 alumni, family and friends of Arlene “Ma” Phelps gathered on the Adrian College campus for the ceremony.

First created in 1992 in honor of the late Mickey Phelps, husband of Arlene and former safety officer and director of security at Adrian College, the garden has recently undergone updates and the addition of new benches. A plaque honoring both Arlene and Mickey was also added to the garden.

Arlene served as resident director and conference director from 1978 until her retirement in 1991. During the ceremony, she was also recognized as the first recipient of the AC Stewardship Award, recently created by the Alumni Association Board of Directors. This award is given to non-alumni current or former employees who demonstrated special care to students during their undergraduate years.

A brunch followed in the Ritchie Marketplace Annex.
