Fayette offering garden plots 3.18.09
You bring the seeds; the village will provide the land.
Fayette village council aims to provide garden plots on property north of the village water treatment plant off Park Street. A small fee will probably be charged for water availability, said village administrator Amy Metz, but that’s yet to be determined.
The Heart Health Coalition of Fulton County sponsored a community garden two years ago, but this year’s effort will provide individual plots for anyone interested in planting a garden.
The effort is a way for the village to provide an area for residents to grow their own produce, Metz said, to cut costs and eat healthier.
The plots should appeal to apartment renters and others who don’t have the space for a garden.
Anyone interested in participating should stop at the village office by March 31. Participants will be required to sign a contract that frees the village of liability in the case of an accident.
Participants will be able to sign up for plots in 10-foot by 10-foot increments. Three units, for example, would give a longer 10 by 30-foot garden.
Tom Spiess has volunteered to plow the land before the planting begins.
