Fayette FFA competes in contests 10.22.08
From soil and dairy cow judging to career development events, Fayette’s FFA members are off to an active start in the new school year.
The soil judging team of Austin-Michael Buehrer, Sheldon Maginn, Clay Burkholder, Darrell Randall, Tyler Keefer, Taylor Curry, Jake West and Dylan MacIntosh placed fifth in the district contest. Twenty-one teams competed.
With this fifth place finish, Burkholder, Randall, Buehrer and Curry qualified to advance to the state competition in Columbus last weekend.
The dairy judging team of Parker Stockburger, Kalley Martin, Tyler Keefer, Quintin Keefer, Jerry Minzey, and Clay Burkholder competed in district competition in Edgerton. They scored a cow class, a heifer class and a linear class, took a test and placed animals based on pedigree and sire characteristics. The team placed fifth and Burkholder finished fifth individually.
Next on the agenda is a trip to the FFA National Convention in Indianapolis. Delegates will listen to keynote speakers, attend a career show of more than 300 vendors and participate in a wide variety of industry tours.
Orders for the annual citrus, nut and beef jerky sale are now being taken. This effort is the club’s largest fund raiser of the year.
The proceeds cover the cost of the annual awards banquet, help send members to FFA camp in the summer and also allow for many other opportunities for Fayette FFA members.
Orders will be taken through Nov. 1. Contact an FFA member or the high school for more information.
