Hearing set for day care 7.16
A hearing is scheduled Monday at the Morenci Planning Commission meeting to consider approval of a day care center in a residential area.
No approval from the city is needed for a home child care provider for up to six children, explained zoning director Jack Baird, but a group day care—from seven to 12 children—is allowed only with a special use permit.
The planning commission must approve the request and refer it to city council for final approval.
Nichole DiCenso currently operates a center in the 400 block of East Street North, but she will be moving into a different house at 518 East St. N. and intends to open a group center there.
All day care centers in the city must show owners are conforming to state standards by obtaining a license through state agencies.
The hearing is scheduled at 7 p.m. Monday in city hall.
